'You've got a friend in me'

Friendship is very important in marriage without the friendship binding you together it is hard to have that emotional connection.   I think of that song “Be That Friend” by Michael Mclean I first heard from one of those old church movies from the church of Jesus Christ of Latterday saints “Together forever”. My sisters and i would watch this after church because we were not allowed to watch any other television but church movies. I guess this one on repeat week after week became embedded in my mind. I am glad that it did, although I didn’t fully understand it while young this song constantly comes to my mind when I am going through conflict or argument with my own husband. Well first of all I will give the brief on this certain part , the married couple are constantly arguing , feeling like they want different things in life now and   thinking what should they do and I remember the line the wife says” they weren’t really good friends like they used to be” and she sa...

Keep the wolves away!

—Marrying and raising children can yield the most valuable religious experiences of their lives. Covenant marriage requires a total leap of faith: they must keep their covenants without knowing what risks that may require of them. They must surrender unconditionally, obeying God and sacrificing for each other. Then they will discover what Alma called “incomprehensible joy.” Elde Hafen Covenant Marriage Ensign Nov 1996 This is an amazing talk about marriage being based on a contract or a covenant , meaning do we look at marriage as a contract we can just tear up or walk away from at any time when it gets to hard or difficulties come our way . Or do we look at marriage as a covenant a promise that we will invest all we can to keeping and staying together. Elder Hafen quotes Marriage is by nature a covenant, not just a private co...

Prepared not Scared !!

One of my favourite mottos to live by for numerous reasons is “prepared not scared” I used it on my mission, I need  it when teaching lessons as I get so nervous, but knowing I have enough information in front of me I am able to give the lesson and follow the spirit. As a side job i make and sell sugar cookies, if I do not prepare and make them in steps ….well then I am scared and this will result in an all nighter and the after effects of an all nighter that aren’t too pretty for those around me..just ask my husband and kids.     So in relation to the question are you prepared for tough times that are now upon us and that are growing increasingly ? The answer is not fully but I am in the process of preparing and well i am trying.   I am preparing myself and my family as I take heed to the watchman on the tower our prophet president Nelson and the twelve apostles who are giving us continuous guidance how we can survive in these per...

Be Present

Only those who believe deeply and actively and, in the family, will be able to preserve their families in the midst of the gathering evil around us. President Spencer W Kimball  (Anchorage, Alaska, regional conference, 18 June 1995). I know I that I am feeling the gathering of evil more than ever, and more than ever am I feeling the attack on the family starting with the husband and wife.   I’m not sure if it has always been like this and only now my eyes are being opened as I watch those close by to me who either have struggling marriages or some failed marriages. Which have started with temptations or the desire for more of what the world offers for happiness. Evil is also at our fingertips with how much is available through social media , I know there is also so many great things about technology including the ability to connect with loved ones. It reminds me of a talk by Elder Bednar “I raise an apostolic voice of warning about the potentially stifling, suffocati...
